The Mausoleum of Khodja Ahmed Yassawi UNESCO HERITAGE
Khoja Ahmed Yassawi was a Turkic Sufi poet, an early mystic who exerted a powerful influence on the development of Sufi orders throughout the Turkic-speaking world.
Khoja Ahmed Yassawi complex was built in the end of the 14th century and became one of the main places of worship in Sufi Muslims culture. A legend states that Tamerlane ordered the construction of the mausoleum on the side of Khoja Ahmed Yassawi’s grave but all the attempts were unsuccessful. Later Tamerlane saw a dream where he was told that the key to his success was above all constructing a mausoleum on the burial place of Arystan Baba, the spiritual mentor and teacher for Khoja Ahmed. Tamerlane followed the prompt he received from a dream but later, instead of completing the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yassawi, the Conqueror decided to invade in China. But on the way he got sick and died. No one else tried to finish building the Mausoleum. And it still remains incomplete…
