In the first two months of the new year, more than 1 million Uzbek citizens traveled to various countries for tourist purposes. These figures exceeded last year's figures by almost 50,000 people in the same period.
According to the statistics, neighboring countries were the most popular destinations. For example, over 400,000 went to Kyrgyzstan, about 180,000 to Tajikistan, and slightly over 166,000 to Kazakhstan.
Uzbek tourists also actively visited Saudi Arabia (just over 150,000), Russia (62,000) and Turkey (nearly 35,000). Other popular destinations included the UAE (almost 27,000), Thailand (nearly 11,000), China (around 9,000) and Egypt (almost 9,000).
The growth of tourism activity among the country's citizens is accompanied by Uzbekistan's active efforts to attract foreign visitors. Previously, it was noted that the tourism potential of Surkhandarya alone could bring the country up to billion annually, provided that infrastructure and services are developed in an integrated manner.
